The truth is, we think we’re good people…but we’re not. We’re self-centered, we’re unfaithful, we’re…not good. If God really gave us what we deserved, it’d be a real hot mess. We are saved by the Unfairness of God. He doesn’t treat us as we deserve. He gives us forgiveness, life, and salvation…His unmerited favor. That He is good to us in this life at all is unfair.

The parable of the Workers in the Vineyard makes it clear that salvation is a gift given by God, not something that we earn and receive as payment. We are not saved by what we do or don’t do, but because we have a good God who gives good gifts. It is all about gifts! And it’s all on Jesus.
