Jesus, Your Pastor, & Your Neighbor (Bible Study Thursday) – Gal. 6:16-18

This week Pastor Borghardt (finally) reaches the end of the book of Galatians. The point of all this is to remind you you’re not saved by something you do or don’t do. What matters is Christ’s suffering and death for you received by faith alone. He alone saves you. Join us next Thursday to see what book we read together next! Peace be with you.

All that Matters in Christ is…FAITH (Bible Study Thursday) Gal 6:15

In the end, it doesn’t really matter whether you do this or that. Doing those things (or not) is not the point. What matters is the new creation that arises from faith in the suffering and death of Jesus. What matters is your baptism where God’s external Word makes you new in Christ. Ultimately, the only thing that matters in Christ is faith, that is all that holds for sure.

Watch Your Boasting (Bible Study Thursday)

All the things you are tempted to boast in which are not the cross of Christ — whether it’s your life change, your decision, or how much much better you are than you used to be — are all great things to do (good job!). But none of them help you stand before God. Only Christ saves you. Everything else is varying degrees of of not-Jesus. Only Jesus saves you.

Don’t Give God the Bird – Galatians 6:7-8 (Bible Study Thursday)

God is not to be treated like He’s stupid or a bad driver on the interstate. If you sow according to your flesh by the Law and depending on your works, it’ll reap destruction. But when you sow according to the Spirit by faith in the Son of God, it’ll reap — from the Spirit — eternal life. You get what you earn, or you’re given by the Spirit what Jesus earned.

Law & Gospel of Helping Others – Gal 6:2-6 (Bible Study Thursday)

It seems contradictory: Help others carry their burdens / You should carry your own burden. But when you apply law and gospel the passage, it makes sense. We love others best when we help them carry their burdens. But if you think you’re all that and other people should carry your burdens…no way. Carry your own load! Stop worrying about others.

How to Deal with People Who Sin (Bible Study Thursday – Gal 6:1)

When you realize the difference between you and people who have been tackled by sin is that you just haven’t been tackled by that particular sin…yet…you’re going to be more merciful to others. Christ saved you, Christ saved them. There’s no place for Christians to look down on anyone else, judging and hating others because of sins they’ve fallen into.
