Lent Gone Legalistically Wrong (Bad Theology Tuesday)

The decatastrophe of Lent occurs when we make Lent about ourselves — our change, our focusing on God, our doing things differently. We either enslave ourselves to some laws or to what we’re NOT doing (and how that’s so much better). Either way, it’s the Law ditch. Repent of making Lent all about you, and fix your eyes on the suffering and death of Jesus.

Freedom…in Lent? (Whats UP Wednesday)

Lent isn’t about you. It’s about Jesus. Turn your focus from yourself and the things you do for Jesus. Sure, we should have that focus every day of the year. But we don’t. So we have a season to help us do that. Lenten fasting and disciplines are great. But do them so that you get yourself out of the way, so Lent can be about watching Jesus go to the cross for you.

Pre-Lent & Shrovetide (Fun Word Friday)

What’s “Pre-Lent” or “Shrovetide”? It’s a short season of preparation to get Christians ready for Lent. We know that a season of fasting and discipline is coming up, so start preparing for it now! Don’t sin it up and celebrate until the final binge with Mardi Gras. Jesus is making His way to the Cross for you. Start contemplating that now.
