Doom and gloom rages all around us these days. There’s a lot of law going on. You don’t need to hear that God is judging you, but that there was One who suffered death for you. There was One who was exiled for you, was truly alone, beaten, bruised, mocked, and died for you. And that One went through your death, hell, and fear and overcame them all.

Comfort for When You Can’t Get to Church (Headline Lowdown)

If you can’t go to church and it’s really troubling you, your Father in heaven knows your need. He’s given you His Word, He’s fed you His Supper, He’s baptized you. Trust in your baptism to carry you through this time. If you don’t care that you’re missing church, this is your call to repentance. Use this time to meditate on His Word and prepare to come back when it’s over.

It’s almost Pastor Borghardt’s favorite Sunday of the entire year! There’s so much joy that can’t be contained over Jesus’ saving us in Lent that the liturgical color changes from violet to rose! Be comforted! Be happy! In spite of all trials, troubles, viruses, sickness, and even death itself, He’s got you. He’s going to save you. He already has. You’ll see!

Ep. 11: Jesus’s Killer Crossover and Descent into Hell

God has given us the image of Christ descending into hell, kicking open the doors, being victorious over the demons for our comfort. This doctrine doesn’t stand alone. It’s tied to His incarnation, life, death, and resurrection. When we try to make logical sense of Christ’s descent into hell, we end up putting victory right back into the Satan’s hands. Because when we describe it as Scripture does, it doesn’t necessarily make a lot of rational sense. But at least we still end up focusing on Christ, and Him preaching victory over sin, death, and the devil. And that’s right where we should end up: talking proclaiming Jesus, the Gospel for the comfort of troubled consciences.
