Lectionary Ep. 2 – Hymnal 101 (New Video Series!!)

 

 

What’s a lectionary? First we have to back up and see that the Church has her own calendar of seasons and holidays (holy-days), etc. Each season has a set of texts that the Church uses at those times. When the year is done, it starts all over again. This way, you know what to expect each week, and you get to receive consistent diet of God’s Word from year to year.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:

The hymnal isn’t just a collection of songs we use for worship services. It’s a book containing a ton of resources for the faithful to use throughout the week, even at home! Pastor Matt Richard not only teaches us about the hymnal but how to make use of it in our daily lives.

Baptismal Birthdays (Theology Tuesday)

 

 

Today is Pastor Borghardt’s baptismal birthday! Why do Lutherans celebrate such a day? Because it’s the day you were born from above, born again. Not by a decision you made but by a washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. In baptism you died with Christ, and you rose with Him too. You are clothed with His righteousness. This day changed your life!

Joy that No One Can Take Away (Lectionary Monday)

 

 

We’re a little disappointed and sad we don’t get to see the resurrected Jesus like the disciples did. But when we see Him on the Last Day (or our last day), we will have joy that no one may take away. That’s the joy that begins — not with you deciding to be happy — but with the death and resurrection of Jesus. A joy centered on the Gospel, upon Jesus.

How Forgiving is Jesus? (Fun Word Friday)

 

 

When reading Matthew 12:32 we worry about blaspheming the Holy Spirit and committing the “unforgivable sin.” But verse 31 says that Jesus forgives all sin! God forgives ALL sins in the suffering and death of His Son. Outside of Him, reject Him, if you don’t believe in Him…you pay the price for your sins. And in Him, every sin is forgiven.

It’s OK to Not be a Pastor (What’s UP? Wednesday)

 

 

It’s ok to be a sheep. God saves sinners, not just religious people. It’s easy to start thinking that the more we do at church, with church, around church…the more saved we are. And then we start to despise the ones who only show up on Sundays. There’s nothing wrong with serving the church, it’s a good thing to do. But it doesn’t save you. Only Jesus saves you.

The Shepherd, the Door, and Salvation (Lectionary Monday)

 

 

Jesus it the door. He’s the entrance to eternal life. Is He REALLY the door? Yes! Is He a symbolic door? No. He’s the one that you enter through to get eternal life. The Good Shepherd stands in the gap of the sheep pen and gives up His life for the sheep. In Him being the door, you are saved. Entering through that Door, you have eternal life.

We don’t want to say, “Oh, it’s alright, I have extenuating circumstances…” We always have “extenuating circumstances” for the things we do. Don’t try to excuse yourself. Just confess your sins, and receive forgiveness.
