Plague and sickness can drive us from our sins and put things in proper perspective. In the OT, God sent plagues to save His people from slavery. In the NT, God crucified His Son to save you from sin, death, and the devil. All that God does, He does to save His people. If you start with Christ, everything that happens might be seen as ultimately good, too, by faith.

What is Faith? (What’s UP? Wednesday)

Faith trusts that God is good in Christ, and that He saves sinners. The Canaanite woman knew that Jesus was for her and that He had to save her, that He wasn’t going to be any other God than her savior. The insults and deafening silence didn’t matter. What mattered was who Jesus is and what Jesus does. He’s the Son of God, and He saves. Even her.

It doesn’t matter because she knows something about Him: He was in Tyre and Sidon, in the Gentile region, for her. So when God tells you “No,” when it feels like He’s ignoring you, understand that before you even ask Him for help, He’s there. For you.
