The Law is good…when it’s used lawfully. But it’s unable to empower anyone to do good works. It works through threat, coercion, punishment, and force to make us behave because it’s unable to work in any other way. Like Thor’s shock collar that compels him to be an obedient dog. Only the Gospel enlivens and empower the faithful to *freely* keep God’s Law.

The idea that God helps you if you help you is NOT Christian. It’s not in the Bible. The Bible actually teaches the opposite of this when it comes to salvation. God helps those who cannot help themselves. Salvation is by grace alone, that is by Jesus alone. Jesus. God the Son, acts, while we can’t act. Only by His holy life and His suffering and death are we saved.

If those vineyard tenants are stoning and killing your servants, WHY would you send your Son to them?? God knows they’re not going to respect His Son. By the end of this section in the Gospel reading, the Pharisees want to kill Jesus too! But we have God of grace who wants to save His people. We don’t deserve God’s grace, but He gives it anyway.

What makes a saint a saint? Not their works or doing some miracles. A saint is a holy one, one who has faith in Jesus, who has been born from above in Baptism. All Saints’ Day is the annual remembrance of those who have died in Christ. They are examples for us of faithful living, and encourage us to serve our neighbors with the love we have received from God.

The primary doctrine upon which the Church stands or falls is justification — salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

In the freedom of the Gospel, Christians can do what Halloween is designed to do: mock the powers of darkness. In Jesus, the powers of darkness simply can’t harm us. We are so safe, we can taunt them by dressing up as scary characters and going trick or treating. Christians are also free not to participate in such activities. Parents are the ones who decide what things are going to be beneficial for their children.

People think of religion as just them and God, and that they don’t need to go to church to love God. But what about your neighbor? Those people at church are hypocrites and sinners. Even more reason for you to show them the love of Christ by receiving together the Lord’s gifts there for you BOTH! You can’t love your neighbor by abandoning them!
