Higher Things Organizational Structure and Leadership Changes

Higher Things, Inc. changes organizational structure and leadership.

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (AUGUST 1, 2019)

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Higher Things is excited to announce many new leadership and structural changes which will bring the Gospel more clearly and loudly to our church’s youth and young adults.

Erica Jacoby has been appointed as the Executive Director of Higher Things. In this newly created position, she will oversee the daily operations and development of the organization. Erica first attended Higher Things’ Conferences as a youth leader before volunteering in 2015 as a conference entertainment coordinator.  Erica has served as the Development Executive of Higher Things since 2016. She has been the most successful Development Executive in Higher Things history.

Rev. Aaron Fenker has been appointed to the newly created position of Dean of Theology. As Dean of Theology, Rev. Fenker will oversee all doctrinal matters, catechesis, and worship of Higher Things. Rev. Fenker began his time with the organization in 2008 as the editor for the daily devotional, Higher Things Reflections. He has since served as the inaugural summer vicar, catechesis coordinator, and beginning in 2016 the Media Executive.

Sandra Madden will move from Conference Executive to Media Executive. Sandra will oversee all of Higher Things’ publications and materials. She has served in many areas of the organization. She was the Secretary of the Organization during her time on the Board of Directors, the Internet Services Executive, Conference Coordinator, and, since 2012, the Conference Executive. Through her contributions and leadership, conferences have expanded from one annual conference event to five and she has overseen retreats and non-conference events.

Crysten Sanchez has been promoted to Conference Executive. Crysten will oversee the operation of the Conference department and continue to coordinate the annual Higher Things conferences. Crysten was a Higher Things CCV (college conference volunteer) during the summer of 2007. She worked in conferences as the Conference Registrar, Conference Assistant, and advanced to the Conference Coordinator position where she has served since 2015.

All of Higher Things is excited about these changes as we look for a future of daring our church’s youth and young adults to be Lutheran.

In Christ,

Rev. George Borghardt III

Higher Things seeks an Executive Director!

“Glory be to Jesus who in bitter pains poured for me the lifeblood from His sacred veins!” (LSB 433)

Thanks be to God for the wonderful growth our organization has experienced these last few years! Our conferences, retreats, and media outlets have grown despite all the forces working against the Church and our youth. Our donors are helping us to dare our church’s youth to be Lutheran more than ever!

In order to keep pace with this wonderful growth, we have made some exciting organizational changes. Our Board of Directors decided in January that we would seek a full-time Executive Director who will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and mission of the organization.

Up until now, Higher Things has employed a “shared” governance model in which executives from various program areas of Higher Things worked together with the Board of Directors to manage the organization. Our unprecedented growth has caused us to replace this with a more agile governance model. The new executive director will lead our current executive staff and report directly to the board of directors. We pray that the new structure will allow us to dare to be Lutheran better, more efficiently, and to more quickly adapt to this ever-changing world as we continue in our mission to fix the eyes of the parents, youth, and youth leaders on the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are a confessional Lutheran, support Higher Things, and want to dare to be Lutheran with us, please check out our Executive Director Job Description. We will be accepting resumes sent to HTED@higherthings.org until May 6, 2019.

A blessed Lententide to you!

Rev. George F. Borghardt III

President

2019 We All Believe VBS Now Available

We All Believe

Now Available

Learn more about We All Believe and Download a Preview of Day 1

What the Father abundantly promises, Jesus the Son graciously provides in His death and resurrection for you, and then the Spirit joyfully brings all that to you in the Word and Gifts of Jesus. That’s what the Apostles Creed confesses from the Holy Scriptures.

Higher Things® We All Believe Vacation Bible School delivers all that to your children over a 5-day curriculum, which is specifically designed to highlight the knowledge and enthusiasm of your church’s youth for God’s Word. We believe the talents of your church’s youth can play an important role in engaging an even younger generation and teaching them to recognize God’s gifts to us in His Word and Sacraments. It’s our desire that this curriculum will help both the young and the young at heart to bring the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ to the children of your congregation and community.

Higher Things Magazine for Winter 2018 – Now Available!

This issue features an assortment of sermons delivered by some of your favorite pastors! Each one submitted to us is a sermon that each pastor felt was especially memorable to preach. Be sure to check out the catechism article by Rev. William M. Cwirla, which zeroes in on how to listen to a sermon.  Also, we recommend you read each passage upon which the sermons are based. And as you settle in to read, try to imagine you are hearing these words right from the pulpit.  A few of these sermons are available to listen to on our website as well. We hope you enjoy each sermon as you “listen to” (read) Law and Gospel rightly preached—all Jesus—FOR YOU!
