You who say you love the Law and think it should be preached more, have you actually *heard* the Law? When the Law applies to other people more than yourself, is used to hem in the Gospel, or obsess about a personal improvement…that’s not actually God’s Law. Only when the pure law is preached with all its severity — when it kills — can the Gospel make you truly alive.

Worrying has become a way that we show that we care about something. But God has clearly told us NOT to worry. If God’s taken care of the animals, how much more is He going to take care of you? How do you know? The suffering and death of Jesus. Nothing in the universe happens apart from God’s love for you in Christ crucified for you.

Children don’t die because, “God needed another angel.” Angels and people are two different things. Because of what Christ did for you, you are actually *greater* than the angels. To become an angel after death would be to become something that’s less than what you already are. God sent His Son to take on human flesh. You are one for whom Christ died.

God v. Satan. People imagine the war in heaven as a dramatic scene of superheroes going at it. But it’s all over in just one verse. God so beats Satan, that Satan ends up doing what God wants him to do. God is so powerful that He can make even evil turn out for good, especially for those who are in Christ.

Are you saved? How do you know? Where do you point? Your savior, or your decision? Jesus is the One who saves, we are the ones who receive salvation from Him. Salvation in Christ is by grace alone through faith, not by our works, decisions, choices, improvement, or anything that we do.

When given the choice between winsome people, slick words, a great delivery, and good works of the Law…and the forgiveness of sins won by Jesus on the cross and delivered to you in water, word, bread, and wine… You’ve got to stick with Jesus! Because the other thing damns. What’s most important is the Gospel. That alone saves you.

The fruit of the Spirit is actually singular (not the fruitS of the Spirit). The works that we do are self-evident…and plural. One Lord, one faith, one baptism…produces one fruit which flows from faith, because it grows from a good tree.

10 lepers were healed, 1stuck around to thank Jesus and worship Him as God. And that guy was a Samaritan — not a faithful Jew. The point of the story is not to command us to be thankful, but to see that thankfulness is a fruit of faith. All 10 lepers got healed. 1 had faith to see the gift for what it was, and the Gift-Giver for Who He is.
