What makes a saint a saint? Not their works or doing some miracles. A saint is a holy one, one who has faith in Jesus, who has been born from above in Baptism. All Saints’ Day is the annual remembrance of those who have died in Christ. They are examples for us of faithful living, and encourage us to serve our neighbors with the love we have received from God.

When you can’t hear the Gospel of Christ crucified for the world without interjecting something (your decision for Christ, making Jesus Lord of your life, speaking in tongues, the Law, the third use of the Law, abortion, gay marriage, life change, virtue, etc.), something is off kilter. The primary doctrine upon which the Church stands or falls is justification — salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

In the freedom of the Gospel, Christians can do what Halloween is designed to do: mock the powers of darkness. In Jesus, the powers of darkness simply can’t harm us. We are so safe, we can taunt them by dressing up as scary characters and going trick or treating. Christians are also free not to participate in such activities. Parents are the ones who decide what things are going to be beneficial for their children.

People think of religion as just them and God, and that they don’t need to go to church to love God. But what about your neighbor? Those people at church are hypocrites and sinners. Even more reason for you to show them the love of Christ by receiving together the Lord’s gifts there for you BOTH! You can’t love your neighbor by abandoning them!

Every problem you have, every situation that you’re in, is a place where the forgiveness of sins would enliven you to new life. The ultimate cure is the forgiveness of your sins. Jesus could’ve said anything to the paralytic man…and He forgave his sins. This tells us that our real problem is that we need forgiveness.

This quote needs to be understood in the context of giving comfort to troubled consciences. When you’re faced with a lose-lose decision that is going cause sin no matter what you do, you can boldly plow through knowing that you have a Savior. This is not to advocate sin or say that sinning is ok. But when you sin (and you will), you have a Savior.

How should you read the Old Testament? Look for Jesus. How should you read the New Testament? Look for Jesus. What is it saying about Jesus? What is it saying about what God in Christ has done for you? Don’t read the Scriptures looking for instructions on what you should do and not do, or how you can be a better person. Read the Scriptures and look for Jesus. That’s what it’s ALL about, says Jesus in John 5:39.

Where does the law end, where does it stop? It hangs on Jesus — His holy life, His bitter sufferings and death. On the cross, Jesus is the end of the Law. On the cross, Jesus saves you from the Law and its condemnations. On the cross, the Lord hangs all of the Law – both the first table (love God with your whole heart) and the second table (love your neighbor as yourself). All of it rests upon Jesus first. Both tables of the Law are done by Jesus for you.
