0529 Koinonia = Communion

When you hear “koinonia” (fellowship), think of the Lord’s Supper. It’s not just the feeling you get when you’re around your friends. First, think of the highest fellowship among Christians. That occurs at the altar, where you receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the remission of all your sins. Fellowship not centered around Lord’s Supper isn’t really church fellowship.

0528 Learning How Good God Is in Christ (Philemon 6)

God not only wants you to believe there IS a God, it’s very important that you believe that the God who made you is good. And you only learn that through by receiving the gifts He’s given you in the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. Apart from those, God looks indifferent. But when you look at the suffering and death of Jesus for you, you have to conclude that God loves you.

Denying Yourself and Taking Up Your Cross

What does it mean to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Jesus? Remember the context of this statement. To deny yourself here is to put away what you think you think, feel, and know about God on your own (skewed by sin). Let your mind be shaped by the actual Word of God. Trust only in the suffering and death of Jesus for salvation. There’s your cross.

The Spirit’s Work (Theology Tuesday)

The Spirit isn’t a feeling you get when you do a good work or sing a hymn you like. It’s not about you being an enthusiastic Christian, or getting better every day. What the Spirit does is point you to Jesus — over and over again. The Spirit delivers God’s Word to you. He kills with the Law, and makes alive with the Gospel. Then you bear witness (through the Spirit) too!

Summary of the Christian Faith – Philemon 4 & 5 (Bible Study Friday?)

Faith and love and their connection to one another is essential for the Christian faith. Paul says that’s what he’s heard so much about Philemon. Love in the Christian life comes as a fruit of faith in Christ. Faith in Jesus; love for others — that’s Christianity! We believe that Jesus died for us and we love other people.

The Ascension – It Changes Everything (Fun Word Thursday?)

The Ascension is a big deal. Like, Christmas and Easter big. But no one seems to notice it. Jesus went up into heaven, and is God’s right-hand Man. God’s right hand has a Human in it! God is forever for us now! There is no end of good that God does for us with Jesus right there as our Advocate, Friend, and Defender. He works out everything for your good.

When Your Church Opens (What’s UP Wednesday)

Churches are reopening again. What does this mean for you? First, whether you go back is not a test of your faith. If you’re at risk or worried, stay home a while longer. Second, social distancing when we are around each other is how we love our neighbors right now. Third, now is a good time to volunteer. There’s extra work to be done for churches to be open.

Chanting Psalms – Ep. 4 – Hymnal 101 (New Video Series!!)

The book of Psalms is considered the “hymnal” of the Bible. But, how in the world can anyone actually sing them?! They don’t even rhyme! This week, we learn what those weird symbols in the Psalm section of the hymnal mean and how we can use them to sing (or chant) God’s Word to different tunes.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:

The hymnal isn’t just a collection of songs we use for worship services. It’s a book containing a ton of resources for the faithful to use throughout the week, even at home! Pastor Matt Richard not only teaches us about the hymnal but how to make use of it in our daily lives.

Christianity Isn’t Only about Obedience (Bad Theology Tuesday)

A lot of times folks fall into the trap of thinking that the Christian faith is all about your obedience, your life change, and your keeping the 10 Commandments. But that’s not only backwards, it completely misses the point. The Christian faith is all about saving you. It’s all about Jesus Christ and Him crucified, for you. His love for you, not your love for Him.
