God promises to work through offices. These offices have titles. Dad. President. Pastor. Using that title is more than showing respect. It’s finding identity in Christ. It’s seeking the God who works behind the man through the office. My first name is Pastor because Harrison can’t help you, but God can through His office.

Obeying sinful parents is a tough thing. The 4th commandment is not just God telling you to deal with it. It’s Him promising to work through the parents He gives you, even if they’re sinners.

God gives His law because He wants to see you taken care of. It’s easy to see in the first table of the law. God commands us to find salvation in Him and His gifts. It’s still true in our neighbor. God commands you to love and honor your parents. It’s not because they earn it. It’s because God wants to work through them for you.

If God gives you something, He wants you to use it and benefit from it. He gives you His name. He intends for you to call upon Him in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks. The Second Commandment isn’t “don’t use God’s name” but “don’t misuse God’s name.” His name is powerful, and when we used for good, good comes from it.

If someone sins against you, it hurts you. It’s not fair. If you sin against someone else, it hurts them. Still not fair. God isn’t concerned with fair. He’s concerned with good and evil. Sin is evil. It breaks stuff. When God works good to forgive and heal, that’s not fair either. He puts all your sins and the sins of all the world on Christ and punishes Him so that you may have His consolation.
